MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN OF MEDICINE
May 15, 2007
The academic year will culminate on Saturday morning, June 2, 2007, with the commencement activities for our graduating students. This is always an inspiring event and I urge you to attend if at all possible. World renowned neurosurgeon, Benjamin Solomon Carson, Sr., M.D., will be this year’s Commencement Speaker. As many of you know, Dr. Carson gained world-wide attention in 1987 for his ground-breaking leadership of the medical team that was the first to separate twins joined at the back of the head. He is Professor of Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Oncology and Pediatrics, and Director of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University. He is also the Co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Craniofacial Center. Dr. Carson’s extraordinary accomplishments as a physician and teacher are inspiring and it is an honor to welcome him as this year’s Commencement Speaker.
The commencement ceremony will take place in the Moody Gardens Convention Center (a map of the Moody Gardens complex is available on the web site below). Ample parking is available in the parking garage which is adjacent to the Convention Center. Tram/shuttle service is also available for overflow parking in the surface lots. Special seating for faculty spouses is available; there will be staff present to assist in seating. Please note that the ceremony will be videotaped. The videographer will need to move about during the ceremony and will make every effort possible to minimize distractions.
