 5.  RESEARCH SERVICES UPDATE

After an in depth and careful assessment of the opportunities for improvement in Research Services, President John D. Stobo announced last week that the institutional goals can be best met through an institutional alignment of Research Services with the School of Medicine. To that end the institutional oversight for Research Services will be provided by the Dean of the School of Medicine. In addition, there will be a Research Advisory Group reporting to the Dean with representatives from all schools to ensure that the research needs spanning UTMB are well supported and advanced.

There will also be a search for a new Director of Research Services who will report to our new Dean. In the meantime, Research Services will continue to work with Jan Feldman, Interim Director of the Program, to improve the way they do business and to explore opportunities to achieve the shared objective to provide the kind of service and professional support necessary to achieve UTMB’s research targets.
