Danny O. Jacobs, M.D.
Executive Vice President and Provost, Dean of the School of Medicine
I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to serve as Executive Vice President and Provost, and Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch. I am proud to be part of an institution with such a rich history and diverse community of people who are working to improve the lives of others.
During my recruitment and transition, I have been moved by the warm Texas welcome I have received and would like to thank all of you for your support. My wife, Nancy, and I are extremely grateful for the hospitality and kindness you have given us and are beginning to feel right at home as we get settled.
In my new role, I will have a “bit” of a learning curve, however, I am already aware of the uniqueness and powerful potential of our academic health center. Furthermore, although we face extraordinary challenges during a time of increased uncertainty, I continue to be impressed by a depth of commitment to excellence in patient care, education and research, which along with resiliency, is a particular strength and distinctive competency for UTMB. These traits, along with a reaffirmation of the need to take care of ourselves as we would family members,* give me confidence that we can meet and overcome the challenges ahead. I pledge to do everything I can to help us build upon the institution’s history of excellence.
Finally, I look forward, with great anticipation, to meeting you in the near future. I already feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work alongside dynamic and dedicated leaders, faculty members, staff and students. Indeed, by “working together to work wonders,” the possibilities are endless!
In the coming weeks and months, I will be on a “listening tour” to get your ideas and input regarding how to move our academic enterprise forward. Please stay tuned for future announcements about this initiative.
