MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN OF MEDICINE
- Cameron Slocum Appointed CFO of the School
of Medicine
It is my pleasure to announce that Cameron
Slocum, director of institutional strategies in the Office of
Finance, has been appointed the chief financial officer for the
School of Medicine. Cameron has been at UTMB since 1998 and
brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of UTMB to this
position.
During his nine-year tenure, Cameron has
served as director of treasury, director of property, plant and
equipment and director of budget, as well as the finance
legislative liaison in the Office of Finance. He is currently a
member of the Strategic Executive Council (SEC) and is
responsible for tracking institutional expenses in accordance
with UTMB’s Financial Improvement Plan. While at UTMB, Cameron
has been responsible for the institutional budget. He has also
assisted the School of Medicine leadership team with
budget-related activities. Additional responsibilities have
included oversight of the capital budget, debt management and
UTMB’s endowments held by UT System.
As chief financial officer of the School of
Medicine, Cameron will be assuming the financial
responsibilities which have been part of the responsibilities of
senior executive associate dean for administration, finance and
planning, Harrold McDermott, who recently resigned to pursue
other professional interests. I am grateful to Harrold for his
hard work and contributions during the last two years.
Some of Cameron’s responsibilities in the
School of Medicine will include financial reporting and
budgeting, leading the school administrators team on all
financial and budgeting activities, preparing and summarizing
long-range planning and forecasting activities, advising the
dean of medicine and UTMB’s chief financial officer on key
financial concerns, managing the HCM EAST team and working with
the CFO of the UTMB hospitals and clinics on improvement of the
revenue cycle. Slocum will continue to assist the institution as
the Finance Legislative Liaison and will remain a member of the
SEC.
Cameron earned a bachelor’s degree in
finance from Texas A&M University and an M.B.A. from the
University of Houston, Clear Lake. He and his wife, Michelle,
live in League City with their two children, Ava, 20-months, and
Conner, 4. Please join me in congratulating Cameron and
welcoming him into his new position.
