I
am very pleased to announce that Jeffrey P. Rabek, Ph.D.,
has been appointed as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and
Admissions for the School of Medicine effective February 1,
2007. Dr. Rabek has served in the position on an interim
basis since May, 2006, and during this time has performed in
outstanding fashion. Dr. Rabek is a member of the
Departments of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Family
Medicine and a fellow in the Sealy Center for Aging at UTMB.
Dr. Rabek
received a BA degree in Zoology from Drew University in
Madison, NJ in 1971 and a PhD degree in Biochemistry from
Princeton University in 1976. He completed postdoctoral
work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN.
Dr. Rabek
has been extremely active in the educational mission of UTMB
in both the School of Medicine and the Graduate School of
Biomedical Sciences. He served as a course director and has
lectured in numerous graduate school courses. He is a
member of the Family Medicine Clerkship Committee,
Curriculum Committee, and the Advisory Committee for the
MD/PhD Combined Degree Program. Dr. Rabek has also been very
active in the National Student Research Forum and has served
as a faculty advisor for the past several years.
At the
state level, Dr. Rabek is a member of the Advisory Council
for the Joint Admissions Medical Program (JAMP) and the
Advisory Board for the Texas Medical Dental Schools
Admissions Service.
