From: Steve
Lieberman, MD
Vice Dean for Academic Affairs
It
is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Robert
Johnson, MD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Preventive
Medicine and Community Health, as the Director of a new
longitudinal curriculum theme in Public Health and Preventive
Medicine.
Bob received his MD from the Uniformed Services University of
the Health Sciences and his MPH from Yale University. After
completing an Aerospace Medicine residency at Brooks Air Force
Base in San Antonio, he served as the Chief of Clinical Research
at the US Air Force Aeromedical Consultation Service. Dr.
Johnson created and served as the Director of the USAF
Preventive Medicine Residency for 4 years and then was the Chief
of Preventive Medicine and Population Health at Wilford Hall
USAF Medical Center. He completed his MBA at UTSA in 2005 prior
to coming to UTMB.
Bob came to UTMB in 2005, serving as director of the combined
Preventive Medicine Residency Program. He has served as a PBL
facilitator in the Great Syndromes course and teaches two
courses in the MPH program. His many professional
accomplishments include being named a Fellow in the American
College of Preventive Medicine.
This appointment represents the first step in implementing the
School of Medicine Education Strategic Plan developed over the
past seven months. In this new role, Dr. Johnson and a committee
will work closely with Course and Clerkship Directors to
integrate relevant aspects of population and preventive medicine
into the curriculum with the goal of weaving a thorough
treatment of these critical topics through the four years of the
Integrated Medical Curriculum.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Johnson to this exciting and
important role.
