I
am pleased to announce the appointment of Ann W. Frye, Ph.D.
as Assistant Dean for Educational Development, effective
January 1, 2007. Dr. Frye has served as Director of the
Office of Educational Development since 2005 and will
succeed Dr. Robert Beach in the title of Assistant Dean for
Educational Development. Dr. Beach will continue to serve
in OED as a Senior Fellow. Dr. Frye’s accomplishments in
teaching and education research have greatly benefited
UTMB’s education mission. She is a well-respected medical
educator, both nationally and internationally, and brings
extensive experience to this position. In her expanded role,
Dr. Frye will interact regularly with leadership across the
SOM as she continues to provide leadership for the education
mission.
Dr. Frye
joined UTMB in 1997 as Associate Director in the Office of
Educational Development. She received her Ph.D. in 2001 and
was appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of
Internal Medicine. From 2004-2005, Dr. Frye held the title
of Special Member – Graduate Faculty, School of Biomedical
Sciences, in the Department of Preventive Medicine and
Community Health. In 2005, she was named Director of the
Office of Educational Development and was promoted to
Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Frye has been of invaluable service to the institution
in her role as medical educator. She has been instrumental
in the design, implementation and evaluation of the
Integrated Medical Curriculum, and has made a significant
impact in faculty development activities on our campus.
Please
join me in welcoming and supporting Dr. Frye in her new
role, and in thanking Dr. Beach for his past and future
contributions to medical education at UTMB.
