It is with
great sadness that I share the news of the death of Dr.
Chester Burns. A memorial service will be held tomorrow at
the Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church at 4 p.m.
Dr. Burns’ contributions to UTMB during his 37-year tenure
were numerous, and his passion for and loyalty to UTMB were
contagious. He had a great interest in the life and
teachings of Sir William Osler and had been a member of the
American Osler Society since 1972. He was an officer of the
AOS and President from 2004 to 2005. Dr. Burns’ legacy
at UTMB will live on in the definitive history of UTMB that
he authored, Saving
Lives, Training Caregivers, Making Discoveries,
and in the countless lives he touched with his enthusiasm,
dedication and devotion to UTMB. Donations
may be made in his honor to: The Chester Burns Alumni
Scholarship Fund c/o Ann Anderson, The Graduate School of
Biomedical Sciences,
301 University Blvd.
