Jeane B. Kempner Scholars, 2007

The Jeane B. Kempner Scholar Award Fund, created under the will of Daniel W. Kempner, provides to The University of Texas Medical Branch funds for annual postdoctoral fellowships named in honor of Jeane B. Kempner. Kempner fellows may carry out their training with any faculty member of the UTMB School of Medicine. The Fellowship Committee is pleased to announce the Jeane B. Scholars for 2007:

Sara M. Johnson, M.D., for studies with Mark Evers, M.D., Professor, Department of Surgery, in a program titled, "The role of P13K in colorectal cancer metastasis."

Sergio Casas-Tinto, Ph.D., for studies with Pedro Fernandez-Funez, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Neurology, in a program titled "Functional characterization of a novel suppressor of amyloid-B neurotoxicity."

Jenny Gu, Ph.D., for studies with Vincent J. Hilser, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, in a program titled "Bridging the knowledge gap between sequence space and protein thermodynamic profiles."

Deepthi Kolli, Ph.D., for studies with Robert P. Garolfalo, M.D., Professor and Vice Chair for Research, Department of Pediatrics, in a program titled "Role of PARP-1 in viral induced lung inflammation."

Frank Lemus, Ph.D., for studies with Jean L. Freeman, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Internal Medicine, in a program titled "Correlates/Impact of Influenza Vaccination on Community Health."
