Commencement Speaker: Benjamin
Solomon Carson, Sr., M.D., Professor of Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery,
Oncology and Pediatrics, and Director of the Division of Pediatric
Neurosurgery, Johns Hopkins University
Ashbel Smith Distinguished Alumnus
Award Recipients: The Ashbel Smith Distinguished Alumnus Award is
the highest honor bestowed by the alumni of the School of Medicine of
the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston . The award
recognizes outstanding service to the medical profession and to
humankind. Former distinguished alumni will gather to welcome the new
members of this select group on Friday, June 1st. Recipients will
receive their Ashbel Smith medallions during the School of Medicine
Commencement on June 2nd. This year’s outstanding representatives of the
university and the medical profession are: Robert E. Askew, Sr., M.D.
’59, Charles D. Fraser, Jr., M.D. ’84 and Armond S. Goldman, M.D. ’53.
Parking: Ample parking is available in the 1,000 car parking garage
which is adjacent to the Convention Center. Tram/shuttle service
is also available for overflow parking in the surface lots.
Hotel Information: A block of rooms is
being held at the Moody Gardens Hotel at a special room rate ($179.00
per night--tax not included). For reservations call: (888)
388-8484 or (409) 741-8484. The reservation deadline is May 10,
2007. All reservations received after this date will be accepted
on a space available basis only at the standard room rate. Please identify
yourself as being with the "UTMB School of Medicine Commencement."
Faculty Regalia Available at the
Bookstore: Faculty orders for
commencement regalia are being taken until Feb. 28. If orders are not
submitted by the deadline, a $15 late fee will be applied (see
memo from Bookstore). Please click on the PDF link below,
print, and fill out the order form. Then return form to the Bookstore, Route 0936, as soon as
possible.
