PROCESS
FOR REQUESTING APPOINTMENT TO AN ENDOWED POSITION
OR TO EMERITUS STATUS
SCHOOL
OF MEDICINE
Below are the steps and
approvals required to appoint a faculty member to an endowed
position (endowed chair and endowed professorship)
or to emeritus status (e.g., Professor Emeritus
and Associate Professor Emeritus). Denise Gonzalez in the Office of the Dean of
Medicine is the Coordinator: please contact via email,
djgonzal@utmb.edu, or call ext. 23967.
Appointment to endowed position:

Department
Chair submits a detailed recommendation letter to the Dean of Medicine
along with a copy of the faculty member’s CV.

Appointments to endowed chairs and
professorships will be for a period not to exceed 5 years.

Appointment to emeritus status:

Department Chair
submits a detailed recommendation letter to the Dean of
Medicine (include the faculty member's date of
retirement and requested date of appointment to emeritus
status), along with a copy of the faculty member’s CV.

Appointment to emeritus status may be
given to a retired faculty member or in anticipation of
the retirement of a faculty member, effective upon
retirement. For additional
